Job summary

University College London Hospitals is seeking to appoint a locum 7 PA Consultant ENT surgeon who has a commitment to high quality patient care, innovative service models, delivery of performance targets, and excellence in education/training. This is a 12 month fixed term contract.

NB: 1:14 On call commitment

The post is intended to be clinic heavy to support reducing our time to first waits, it will include work off site and require flexible working. The post holder is required to be in specialist register. This post offers no fixed theatre session, however there will be opportunities to cover theatre sessions available due to leave, hence the need for flexibility.

This provisional job plan is subject to agreement and change.

Main duties of the job

The consultant's job plan is expected to comprise 7 Programmed Activities per week on average, to be carried out at the RNENT, as well as our satellite clinics at Edgware and Whittington. The new post-holder will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan including personal and professional objectives with the Clinical Director within three months of his / her start date; and the Consultant may be required to undertake a prospective diary exercise to inform this process.

Of the 7 PA's, 6 will be Direct Clinical Care, including an on-call commitment of 1 in 14; and then 1 SPA. The DCC job plan follows a team based approach. The part of the job plan related to wider departmental activities, supporting professional activities and personal objectives is more individually tailored.

Person specification

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

  • FRCS(ORL) and CCT or equivalent
  • Eligible for full GMC registration
  • On GMC Specialist Register in Otolaryngology by date of appointment NB: Non UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register and Specialist Register in relevant specialty by date of appointment.

Desirable

  • Formal experience in postgraduate teaching
  • Higher Degree e.g PhD, MD
Experience

Essential

  • Experience of management of complex ENT cases (adults and paeds).
  • Ability to operate independently adults and paediatric patient

Desirable

  • Post CCT Fellowship
Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Clinical Skill: Evidence of broad experience in the field of ENT
  • Clinical Governance Management and IT: Knowledge of audit methodology and experience of formal participation in audit
  • Clinical Governance Management and IT: Knowledge of research methodology and experience of formal participation in research
