Main duties of the job

Please see the full Job Description and the Person Specification for further details about the job role.

About us

Whittington Health serves a richly diverse population and works hard to ensure that all our services are fair and equally accessible to everyone. Nowhere is this more obvious than in the way we look after our staff. We aim to employ a workforce which is as representative as possible of this population, so we are open to the value of differences in age, disability, gender, marital status, pregnancy and maternity, race, sexual orientation, and religion or belief. The Trust believes that as a public sector organisation we have an obligation to have recruitment, training, promotion and other formal employment policies and procedures that are sensitive to these differences. We think that by doing so, we are better able to treat our patients as well as being a better place to work.

Job responsibilities

The Dermatology department is actively involved in clinical research and regularly participates in international clinical trials. The Surgery & Cancer ICSU is keen to extend its research programme into the field of dermatology and will assist in applying for research grants where appropriate. We have a dedicated Research Team in the Trust that assists with clinical trials. It is of particular importance to the hospital that the postholder fosters excellent collaborative working relationships with local GPs, both individually and through the CCG

The postholder should be willing to assist and support the expansion of Teledermatology services. There is therefore the opportunity to include adult/paediatric Teledermatology in the job plan depending on service need. Teledermatology is currently open to routine referrals only, and will eventually become the main routine referral pathway for Dermatology patients in NCL. The paediatric teledermatology service is currently being run as a pilot open to selected local primary care practices.

We offer general Dermatology clinics and a range of specialist clinics including:

  • Two Week Wait Skin Cancer Clinics including dermatological surgery run by Dr Taghipour, Dr Esdaile, Dr Duhovic, and Dr Kravvas.
  • A Vulval clinic in conjunction with The Department for Womens Health (for female genital skin problems) run by Dr Taghipour and Miss Michelle Mooy
  • Paediatric dermatology clinic
  • An Immunobullous clinic (blister clinic) run by Dr Taghipour
  • A Patch test clinic - run by Dr Duhovic
  • A Keloid injection clinic run by Sister Bridget Akwa-Otu and Lianta Downes
  • A Biologics clinic for psoriasis patients run by Dr Kravvas
  • A Roaccutane clinic

The Related Specialties

a) There is close working relationship with the Paediatric Department where we hold weekly outpatient clinics.

b) We work closely with the Histopathology department (based at ULCH). A joint multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meeting and clinical-pathological meeting takes place on the second, fourth and fifth Thursdays of each month and these are attended by the Dermatology team, Histopathologist (UCLH), Radio-oncology Team (UCLH), and an MDT co-ordinator.

c) The vast majority of skin cancer surgery is managed in-house by the department. However, Plastic Surgery and Radiotherapy services are provided by the Royal Free Hospital and UCLH respectively, as required.
