Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Medical PA to join our Neurology team based at Colchester Hospital

We are looking for an efficient, conscientious, well-motivated, enthusiastic and experienced Medical PA , with the skills to provide dedicated clerical support to both the clinical team.

The post will be based at Colchester Hospital, working with a well-established, high achieving & committed team. You will provide efficient and pro-active secretarial and administrative support to the clinicians. You will be the first point of contact for patients and will deal with a range of queries. You will work as part of our administrative team in supporting and covering other colleagues in the department.

Main duties of the job

The department is fast paced and you must be able to work under pressure.

You will be responsible for working independently providing a full range of secretarial and administrative support and therefore must be highly organised and show the ability to prioritise a busy workload

In this role you will be responsible for carrying out medical secretarial administrative duties, adhering to policies and procedures to provide a comprehensive high quality service, and to be able to deal efficiently and courteously with patient and staff enquiries. You will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to prioritise and adapt to constant demands on the workload as well as be able to demonstrate the ability to work as a team member. Relevant experience within an administration team is essential.

Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience as a medical secretary or medical administrator.

Desirable

  • AMSPAR Diploma or equivalent.
  • Shorthand/speedwriting.
Education

Essential

  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology and Medical Secretarial practices
  • GCSE's A to C or equivalent in Maths and English. Audio typing qualification.
  • Word processing to RSA III or equivalent

Desirable

  • AMSPAR Diploma or equivalent
  • Shorthand/speedwriting
Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of Hospital Portal system
  • Knowledge of Digital Dictation system
  • Understand requirements for strict confidentiality.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Patient Access Policy and 18 Weeks including validation
