Job summary

Chelsfield Surgery is looking for two friendly, organised and patient-focused Medical Receptionist to join our busy and supportive GP practice team.

As the first point of contact for patients, you will play a key role in delivering excellent customer service, managing appointments, handling telephone and face-to-face enquiries, processing administrative tasks and supporting the wider multidisciplinary team.

We are seeking someone with excellent communication skills, strong IT abilities and a professional, caring approach. Previous receptionist or administrative experience is essential, and experience within a GP practice or healthcare setting would be advantageous. Training will be provided for the right candidate.

This is a permanent part-time position of 16-17 hours per week, with flexibility required to cover annual leave and occasional additional shifts when needed.

About us

Chelsfield Surgery is situated in Orpington, Bromley. The surgery has a variety of clinical skill mix as we as being a teaching practice.

We are a part of Orpington PCN, and has plenty of support through ARRS roles.

Our team consist of 2 GP Partners , 1 Salaried GPs, 1 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, 2 Practice Nurses, 1 Sexual Health Nurse, 1 HCA, a Paramedic, Pharmacy Technician, Social Prescriber, Mental health Practitioner, Care Coordinators, physiotherapist, podiatrist and a fantastic administrative support team.

We are a training practice with 1 GP trainers with GP registrars

Job Description

Medical Receptionist (16-17 hours per week)

Chelsfield Surgery is seeking a friendly, organised and professional Medical Receptionist to join our busy practice team.

As the first point of contact for patients, you will provide a welcoming and efficient reception service both face-to-face and over the telephone. You will be responsible for managing appointments, handling patient enquiries, processing registrations, maintaining patient records and supporting the wider clinical and administrative teams.

Main Duties
  • Greet and assist patients at reception.
  • Answer and manage telephone enquiries professionally.
  • Book, amend and cancel patient appointments.
  • Signpost patients to the most appropriate service.
  • Process patient registrations and update patient records.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence.
  • Process referrals and administrative requests in line with practice procedures.
  • Support clinicians and colleagues with general administrative tasks.
  • Maintain confidentiality, data security and information governance standards.
  • Contribute to a positive patient experience and effective team working.
About the Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Is confident using IT systems, Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Can work effectively under pressure in a busy environment.
  • Has strong organisational and time management skills.

  • Is flexible, reliable and professional.

Previous receptionist, administrative or customer service experience is essential. Experience within a GP practice, NHS or healthcare setting and knowledge of EMIS would be advantageous.

  • - Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.

  • - Professional, friendly and approachable manner.
  • - Understanding of confidentiality and data protection principle

Desirable

  • Previous experience working within General Practice, Primary Care or the NHS.
  • Knowledge of GP appointment systems and patient pathways.
  • Experience using SystmOne
  • Awareness of NHS services and healthcare terminology.
  • Experience handling sensitive or confidential information
