Job summary

The post holder will provide ward-based education and training to support Registered Nurses, Registered Nursing Associates and Healthcare Support Workers across the Paediatric unit, including Paediatric High Dependency . The post holder will collaborate with the Paediatric Practice Education team to identify individual staff training needs, and the development of role specific competencies. The post holder will be responsible for developing and evaluating best practice within the ward areas alongside the Practice Education Team and Ward/Department Managers. The post-holder will work alongside the Practice Educators and Ward Managers to develop targeted clinical training programs and competencies to support learners of varying registration, qualifications, and clinical experience. This will include working closely with multidisciplinary teams to plan, facilitate and enable access to learning opportunities.

  • Ensure that all Trust wide standards are maintained and monitored to improve the quality of total care to all who encounter the Children's Services.

  • Cover the work of colleagues during periods of absence or peak workloads.
  • Carry out other duties commensurate with the grade and nature of the post as designated by the Group Director of Nursing / Modern Matron / Band 7 Practice Educator

  • Accountable for own actions in accordance with the code of Professional Conduct.
  • Participate in delivering training that drives professional development and is adapted to support specific groups of nurses (Newly Qualified Nurses, Rotational staff, Band 6 development roles, Qualified Nursing Associates, Senior Healthcare Support Workers).
  • Support nursing team to audit and evaluate nursing care.
  • Promote best practice in line with current paediatric national and local guidelines
  • Promote best practice in ensuring NMC documentation Standards set out in the NMC Code of Professional standards of practice for nurses, midwifes and nursing associates
  • Act as a clinical role model promoting the professional image of nursing within the Trust and ensuring that nursing practice is in accordance with the Trusts policies and procedures and statutory nursing bodies legislation.
  • Establish good working relationships with multidisciplinary colleagues within the Trust.
  • Maintain own clinical competency in line with the NMC Code of Professional standards of practice for nurses, midwifes and nursing associates
  • Available to be rostered for a minimum of one clinical shift per month, this may be increased dependent on service need

Qualifications

Essential

  • oCurrent Professional Registration either RSCN, or RN Child oEvidence of continuous professional development oPractice assessor / Mentor and assessing qualification oStudy at level 6 (degree / diploma)

Desirable

  • oTeaching and Assessing Qualification
Experience

Essential

  • oRecent Professional general clinical experience within an acute Paediatric setting oEvidence of implementing change in clinical practice oEvidence of experience working with students/ preceptees / trainee nursing associates in a clinical setting

Desirable

  • oExperience in research or audit oExperience in caring for children and young people displaying escalating behaviours
Knowledge

Essential

  • oA sound knowledge of professional policies and procedures oA sound understanding of the role of the Trainee nursing associate / nursing associate oKnowledge of clinical governance and a commitment to clinical supervision and staff development

Desirable

  • oA good understanding of current issues relating to the NHS. oExperience in Policy/Service Development oLeadership and supervisory skills
