Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate and motivated Band 6 Podiatrist to join our Brent and Harrow Specialist Care Team. This is an exciting 12-month fixed-term opportunity, based at Alexandra Avenue Health and Social Care Centre, Harrow, HA2 9DX.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical expertise within a supportive specialist community service. You will provide high-quality podiatric assessment, treatment and ongoing management for patients with a range of complex needs, using evidence-based practice to support positive outcomes, mobility and independence.

We are looking for a podiatrist who is confident working autonomously while enjoying being part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team. You will bring strong clinical and interpersonal skills, alongside the ability to educate and empower patients to understand and manage their foot health.

As a Band 6 clinician, you will have opportunities to develop your specialist knowledge, support colleagues and demonstrate positive clinical leadership within the service.

We also welcome applications from experienced Band 5 Podiatrists who are ready to take the next step in their career and develop their skills at Band 6 level within a supportive specialist team.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 Podiatrist, you will:

  • Provide high-quality podiatric assessment, treatment and ongoing management for patients with a range of complex foot health needs, using evidence-based practice and sound clinical reasoning.

  • Manage an allocated clinical caseload with appropriate autonomy, developing person-centred treatment plans and recognising when specialist advice, escalation or onward referral is required.

  • Work collaboratively with Podiatrists, multidisciplinary teams and other health and care professionals to ensure patients receive coordinated and seamless care.

  • Educate and empower patients to understand their condition, manage their foot health and reduce the risk of further complications.

  • Supervise and appropriately delegate clinical activities to junior clinicians and Podiatry Assistants, while supporting students during clinical placements.

  • Participate in CLCH podiatry clinical rotations where appropriate, supporting professional development and wider service needs.

  • Work closely with Highly Specialist Clinicians when managing more complex presentations, seeking specialist advice and support where required.

  • Manage a domiciliary caseload where required, delivering safe and effective podiatry care within patients' homes.

  • Work flexibly across community settings while effectively managing a varied caseload and maintaining high standards of clinical documentation, governance and patient care.

Education/Qualification

Essential

  • BSc Degree In Podiatric Medicine or Diploma (if qualified prior 1991)
  • Evidence of continual professional and personal development
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council
  • Certificate in local anaesthesia

Desirable

  • Evidence of post grad training in specialist area of podiatry
Experience

Essential

  • Post graduate clinical experience of multidisciplinary and interagency working
  • Experience of working with a wide range of patient and disease / pathology types including the at-risk and high-risk foot
  • Experience of working as part of a specialist team (clinical rotation experience accepted

Desirable

  • Experience of working in an NHS environment
  • Experience of clinical supervision / mentoring
  • oExperience of service development
Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of recent developments in the profession
  • Full knowledge of podiatric theory and practice
  • Knowledge of foot orthotic design and manufacture
  • Knowledge of CoP code of conduct

  • Understanding of Clinical Governance -theory and practice
  • Knowledge of treatment options and skills required in the management of High risk tissue breakdown

  • Ability to undertake intricate work in using sensitive diagnostic tools and a range of surgical instruments. e.g. in the management and debridement of poor tissue viability wounds and nail surgery
  • Organisational and planning skills to manage your own work time and domiciliary caseload
  • To be competent in the use of treatment and diagnostic tools (including, Doppler, scalpel techniques, syringe etc)
  • oIT Skills including use of Internet, e-mail, Word Processing

  • Presentation Skills / Experience at delivering Health Promotion
  • Ability to manufacture simple insoles
Key Attributes

Essential

  • Ability to cope with a busy demanding and varied workload able to cope with the demands of moving between sessional clinics, on foot, by transport. This may include carriage of clinical equipment on home visits.
  • Performing clinical treatments in physically restricted work positions requiring repetitive fine movements
  • Car Driver with access to a vehicle
