Job summary

We are looking for a caring, motivated and team-minded salaried GP to join our friendly, well-established training practice. The post is for 4 sessions per week, available from November 2026. The role is a replacement for a colleague who is emigrating, so you would be joining a stable and supportive team.

Main duties of the job

Clinical work

Providing a mix of face to face and telephone consultations for patients of all ages

Carrying out home visits with support from the acute visiting service for some visits

Reviewing acting on and following up pathology and other test results in a timely way

Taking a fair share of prescription requests medication reviews and clinical queries

Dealing with correspondence referrals and other clinical administration within each session

Participating in Tuesday Enhanced Access sessions where agreed

Managing long term conditions and contributing to quality outcomes framework primary care network directed enhanced service and other contractual requirements

Teaching learning and clinical governance

Supporting general practice registrars and foundation year doctors informally in day to day practice and taking part in teaching where agreed

Attending regular practice clinical meetings including gold standards framework palliative care meetings audit presentations and clinical updates

Taking part in the practice learning time sessions each year

Contributing to clinical audit quality improvement significant event analysis and complaint review

Maintaining your own continuing professional development annual appraisal and revalidation

About the Practice

  • List size of approximately eight thousand five hundred patients situated in centre of Warrington
  • Care quality commission rating Good
  • Training practice with general practice registrars vocational training scheme and foundation year doctors
  • Member of our primary care network and participating in the primary care network directed enhanced service and additional roles reimbursement scheme staff
  • Clinical team of four general practice partners three salaried general practitioners and two practice nurses
  • Access to an acute visiting service for some home visits
  • Practice offers womens health including coils and implants
  • Enhanced Access sessions on Tuesdays participation may be required and this is open to negotiation
  • Participates in research projects

Job responsibilities

The working pattern for the four sessions mirrors that of our partners, and will include

Clinical work

  • Providing a mix of face-to-face and telephone consultations for patients of all ages.
  • Carrying out home visits, with support from the acute visiting service for some visits.
  • Reviewing, acting on and following up pathology and other test results in a timely way.
  • Taking a fair share of prescription requests, medication reviews and clinical queries.
  • Dealing with correspondence, referrals and other clinical administration within each session.

  • Managing long-term conditions and contributing to QOF, PCN DES and other contractual requirements.

Teaching, learning and clinical governance

  • Supporting GP registrars and FY2 doctors informally in day-to-day practice, and taking part in teaching where agreed.
  • Attending regular practice clinical meetings, including GSF (palliative care) meetings, audit presentations and clinical updates.
  • Taking part in the practice's 10 Practice Learning Time (PLT) sessions each year.
  • Contributing to clinical audit, quality improvement, significant event analysis and complaint review.
  • Maintaining your own CPD, annual appraisal and revalidation.

General

  • Working as part of the multidisciplinary team with colleagues, administrative staff and PCN and community partners.
  • Following practice policies, including safeguarding, infection control, information governance and health and safety.
  • Maintaining accurate, contemporaneous and appropriately coded clinical records.
  • Treating patients and colleagues with dignity, respect and compassion, and promoting equality and diversity.

Person specification

IT skills

Essential

  • Proficient in using an electronic patient record system, including consultation, coding.
  • Prescribing and results handling.

Desirable

  • Experience of SystmOne.
Experience

Essential

  • Able to manage a broad general practice caseload, including undifferentiated and acute presentations, long-term conditions and urgent care. Confident in conducting both face-to-face and telephone consultations. Able to carry out home visits safely and effectively. Sound clinical judgement, with awareness of own limits and when to seek advice.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a UK GP practice beyond training. Special clinical interest that could benefit the practice.
Teamwork and attitude

Essential

  • Works well as part of a team. Respectful and supportive of colleagues, trainees and other professionals. Flexible, reliable and open to feedback.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a training practice and an interest in supporting learners.
Organisation and time management

Essential

  • Able to manage time well and prioritise a busy workload. Organised and efficient in dealing with results, prescriptions, correspondence and tasks within sessions.
Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice without restriction. UK GP CCT (or equivalent) and MRCGP (or equivalent). Included in the NHS Performers List (or eligible for inclusion). Up-to-date appraisal and revalidation status.

Desirable

  • Additional qualifications relevant to general practice (e.g. DRCOG, DFSRH, diploma in a specialist area)
Language and communication

Essential

  • Fluent spoken and written English to the standard required by the RCGP and GMC. Excellent communication skills with patients, carers and colleagues.

Desirable

  • Additional languages spoken by our patient population.
