Hammersmith and Fulham Schools Team - Specialist Speech and Language Therapist Band 6

Join the CLCH Speech and Language Therapy Education Team and become part of the H&F Joint Communication Team, working alongside Local Authority colleagues to deliver our innovative Experts at Hand model.

In this role:

o Work alongside Band 7 colleagues and specialist teachers to develop and deliver our exciting Experts at Hand service, providing universal, targeted, and specialist support for children and young people who do not have an EHCP o Build strong partnerships with schools across your allocated cluster, delivering high-quality speech and language therapy while empowering education staff through consultation, coaching, and workforce development o Champion inclusive practice by helping schools develop communication-friendly environments and approaches to supporting children with SLCN o Collaborate with experienced MDT colleagues to further develop and expand our well-established JCT offer, ensuring all schools and settings across the borough can access expert communication supporto Contribute to service innovation and strategic development, helping shape the future of integrated speech, language, and communication provisionIn the CLCH SLT service we are passionate about reducing inequalities and have an active diversity and inclusion ethos. Main duties of the job

Key duties include:

  • Work at part of a multi disciplinary to deliver the Experts at Hand Service in Hammersmith and Fulham
  • Work across primary, secondary and post 16 services in the borough
  • To assess the need for, develop and implement Speech and Language Therapy treatment to children with a wide range of speech, language and communication difficulties.
  • Identify appropriate strategies to facilitate and enhance communicative effectiveness in the home, school and other relevant settings.
  • To make appropriate clinical decisions following assessment, using evidence-based practice and outcome measurement to provide the most effective treatment to children and their families within clearly defined care plan.
  • To make a differential diagnosis on the basis of evidence from assessment.
  • To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures relevant to the field, in particular in the field(s) of specialisation.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree and Licence to Practise from the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists
  • Current registered membership of HCPC and RCSLT
Experience

Essential

  • Experience of supporting CYP, families and schools in line with the Children and Families Act 2014 including contribution to statutory assessments (Education Health and Care Plan Needs Assessments), contribution to the annual review process and delivery of SLT provision as specified in Education health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • Collaborative work with parents and other professionals
  • Experience Training others

Desirable

  • Interest to develop clinical specialism in education
  • Training/experience of supporting students and more junior qualified therapists including provision of supervision and line management
Skills

Essential

  • Excellent Interpersonal skills including observation, listening and empathy
  • Excellent communication /presentation skills verbal and written
  • Good working knowledge of appropriate range of assessments and interventions for school aged CYP with Speech, Language and Communication needs and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits to individual CYP
  • Understanding and application of Education Practice and Policy including the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Reforms 2026
  • Awareness of national policies and procedures (relevant to the Education)
  • Good team working
  • Ability to deal with conflict and good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to organise and manage own caseload independently and support other more junior staff manage their caseload.
