Job summary
Are you a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist with solid experience at Band 5/6 level who wishes to further develop their clinical skills and experience in the area of paediatric complex needs? We have one permanent Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist post in our paediatric service working in the field of complex needs.
You will join our friendly and established team of both Therapists and Assistants and work across a range of specialist settings including special schools, clinics and the young person's home. You will be responsible for developing and delivering training to staff and family as well as supporting our AAC pathway. We are a welcoming and forward-thinking team working closely with our partners in schools, Local Authority, 3rd Sector and Health. The post holder will also benefit from professional support and development opportunities to develop their skills further including CPD opportunities and regular team meetings and supervision. You will also develop your management skills as you will support more junior members of the team as well as students.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be passionate, hard-working and dynamic with an interest in service improvement. You will have excellent team working skills and be willing to work flexibly across sites and locations.
The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner to assess, diagnose and manage children and young people with complex needs. Experience in AAC is highly preferred as you will support and advocate for alternative methods of communication where needed.
You will work with a shared specialist caseload of children and young people across the footprint as well as working at the targeted and universal level to deliver training to parents/carers and staff. You will be expected to support student placements as we strongly value this. Working with Welsh medium pupils forms part of the role and so the ability to speak Welsh is desirable. There will be opportunities to gain skills organising and creating training, developing supervision skills and participating in total team development days and team meetings. You will also work with our Team Leads and wider team to ensure our service provides efficient, effective, patient centred care.

Qualifications & Training
Essential
- Recognised SLT degree or equivalent
- Registered member of RCSLT and HCPC
- Completion of postgraduate specialist courses, e.g. Dysphagia, etc
Experience
Essential
- Assessment and management of individuals with severe and complex disabilities
- Experience of supervising Speech and Language Therapy students up to final year
- Support and mentor less experienced Speech and Language Therapists within area of clinical responsibility
- Experience and implementation of a range of specialist treatment options for individuals and groups
- Training or teaching of SLTS, other professionals, medical staff and assistants
- Ability to plan, prioritise and manage specialist caseload without direct supervision
- Use and interpretation of assessments for specialist caseload
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Specialist knowledge underpinned by current evidence-based practice
- Good verbal and written skills to share complex and sensitive information
- Able to work unsupervised and independently as an active member of MDT negotiating case management
- Demonstrates understanding of wider public service policies
- Implementation of clinical governance/audits/research within relevant specialism
- Ability to use Microsoft packages including virtual platforms, spreadsheets etc
- Ability to manage conflict and resolve timely using enhanced communication skills
Desirable
- Ability to speak Welsh
