Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to work in our Community Team for People with Learning Disabilities in East Surrey. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist to work within a well-established multi-disciplinary health team. Previous experience of working with people with a learning disability is desirable.

Our learning disabilities services provide high quality care within assessment and treatment settings and within community teams. Our Speech and Language Therapists are committed to promoting good communication in a proactive, ethical way. They have a key role in supporting individuals, their support networks and multi-disciplinary colleagues in the implementation of the RCSLT five good communication standards.

The successful candidate will possess good written and verbal communication skills and will be a keen team player. Surrey & Borders Partnership Foundation NHS Trust is committed to encouraging staff to develop their full potential and therefore supports training and Continuing Personal Development within a robust, supportive supervision structure.

The candidate must have a valid Driving License. Successful applicants will be expected to travel between bases in Redhill and Leatherhead.

Main duties of the job

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate the speech and language therapy needs of people with learning disabilities who use our services.

o To supervise and teach unqualified staff including students.

To demonstrate specialist speech and language therapy skills in areas of communication in order to develop and maintain skills needed for living a safe and ordinary life.

  • Formal training such as Makaton, PECS, Talking Mats
Skills

  • Valid UK driving license and access to car for work purposes
