Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 4 Technical Instructor to join our Occupational Therapy team within the Forensic Inpatient Service, Enfield.

Our service supports adults with complex mental health needs and a forensic or offending history in their recovery. Through meaningful activity, skill development, education, and vocational opportunities, we help people build confidence, increase independence, and work towards their personal goals and aspirations.

As a Technical Instructor, you will inspire and support service users to develop new skills, explore interests and achieve personal goals through meaningful vocational, practical and recovery-focused activities. Your work will play a vital role in promoting confidence, independence, wellbeing and social inclusion.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a Qualified Occupational Therapist, on a medium / low secure forensic ward; alongside a robust multi-disciplinary team. As a Technical Instructor you will be expected to work with individuals on a one to one basis and facilitate therapeutic group sessions within the hospital and in the community; with the aim to promote service users recovery, maximise independence and to work towards their discharge. Team working and communication are an essential part of this role.

  • Experience of working as a team member
  • Experience of managing own time effectively to meet clinical and administrative tasks.
  • Experience of planning and running therapeutic groups and sessions
  • Working in the NHS or inpatient experience

Desirable

  • Managing risk and maintaining safe therapeutic environments
  • Ability to adapt groups to the functional level of the service user group
