Job summary
This approved training post provides a range of practical and educational opportunities for the first year of a two-year foundation programme. The post holder will develop a variety of generic and core specialist competencies that focus upon the appropriate skills, knowledge and attitudes required in order to ensure high quality & safe care is experienced by every patient. Achievement of these competencies will be further developed during the second year of the foundation programme
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to clerk patients who attend under the General Surgery department. This unit manages both acute and elective patients with general surgical complaints. You will manage patient's medical illnesses under supervision, request investigations / treatments for patients, take patient histories and carrying out routine patient examinations, communicate with patients, and provide discharge summaries etc. to promote good liaison with General Practitioners, liaise with patients' relatives and provide on-call services as required. You will be supervised by senior colleagues with timely consultant review. You will also participate in the acute on call rota on a 1:11 basis, where you will be part of the team.

Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Full GMC Registration with License to Practice
Desirable
- 1st class honours for BSc
- Distinction, merits or equivalent throughout undergraduate medical programme
- Peer reviewed publications
Clinical Experience, Knowledge & Skills
Essential
- Understanding of the major principles the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013) including
- Knowledge, skills and performance
- Safety and quality
- Experience working in the UK
- Communication, partnership and team work
- Understanding of the outcomes to be achieved in UK Foundation programme as set out in the GMC's The Trainee Doctor (2011)
Language and Communication Skills
