Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Band 8a Advanced Nurse Practitioner to provide clinical leadership across our Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) service and support activity within Aylsham Medical Day Unit. This is an exciting opportunity to help run, develop and expand services that deliver safe, effective treatment as an outpatient, support admission avoidance and facilitate timely discharge from hospital.

You will bring advanced clinical assessment and decision-making skills, professional credibility and a commitment to safe, evidence-based, patient-centred care. We are looking for a confident, compassionate and improvement-focused practitioner who can work autonomously while building strong relationships across nursing, medical, pharmacy and wider multidisciplinary teams.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the day-to-day running of the Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) service, while providing leadership for service delivery, development and expansion.

They will also help ensure that both OPAT and Aylsham Medical Day Unit have the appropriate staffing and resources to operate safely and effectively, responding flexibly to short-notice pressures or changes that may affect service delivery.

The OPAT Advanced Nurse Practitioner Lead will provide positive and proactive leadership, with a strong commitment to sharing knowledge and supporting the development of others. They will work collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary team across a range of specialties and liaise closely with community partners to promote coordinated, high-quality patient care, effective service delivery and the continued expansion of the OPAT service.

Key responsibilities include:o Lead the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centred care in line with national, regional and local policies.o Drive service improvement and development, as well as organisational learning through clinical governance processes, including audit, incident review and patient feedback.

Lead the expansion of the OPAT service by working collaboratively with teams across the Trust and with external partners to develop and implement new clinical pathways. Champion improvements in patient experience through a culture of compassion, learning and innovation. Provide professional support and leadership to nursing teams, including workforce development, recruitment, retention and staff wellbeing. Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Professional Registration with either NMC, GPhC or HCPC
  • MSc in Advanced Practice or equivalent level of experience(i.e. registered on Centre of advancing practice directory) supplemented by specialist training & competency sign off by Consultant in field and other specialist qualifications relevant to the post, including MSC (level 7) modules / qualification
  • Significant post qualification experience (minimum 4 years) in a relevant clinical field

Desirable

  • Leadership/management/change management course
Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience of working as a registered practitioner and within a relevant speciality (several years minimum)
  • Evidence of recent teaching, mentorship, and supervision of staff

Desirable

  • Involvement in service improvement, audit, research and understanding quality issues
Skills

Essential

  • Evidence of both theoretical and practical skills and competency in patient management
  • Strong leadership skills

  • Ability to develop protocols and guidelines
