Job summary
We invest around £18 million each year in improving our clinical services by replacing and upgrading medical equipment, modernising estate and facilities and improving information and technology infrastructure. Each year, we treat more than 200,000 accident and emergency patients and carry out more than 80,000 procedures.
Sonographer lead, the ultrasound departments at ULTH incorporate a wide range of procedures which includes abdominal, obstetric, gynaecological, small parts and vascular procedures. We have a strong commitment to personal develop in all aspect of ultrasound such as led fine needle aspiration of Head & Neck nodules and HyCoSy.
Audit and CPD is actively encouraged and bi-monthly audit meetings for ultrasound are ongoing.
Main duties of the job
Job Details
- Advanced Practitioner in Ultrasound/Sonographer
- Ultrasound Department
- Lincoln County Hospital, Pilgrim Hospital Boston + other all other trust sites including Community Diagnostic Centres as needed
- Band 7
- Saturday and Sundays 0800-1600 (7.5 hr days)
- The post holder will need to undertake obstetric, general abdominal, gynaecological, small parts, DVTs and Carotid ultrasound examinations.
- We do not currently offer a weekend Obstetric Ultrasound Service.
The successful candidate must hold the Post Graduate Diploma in ultrasound (or equivalent) and be HCPC Registered. The ultrasound department is currently working a 7 day week.
The post holder will be an effective communicator, able to work alone or as part of a team, demonstrate organisational skills and have the ability to work to a high standard, both technically and in patient care.
Travel to other sites by means other than public transport within Trust to facilitate a 7-day week working if required.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential
- PgDip (Medical Ultrasound) from a CASE-accredited programme/ or accepted equivalent such as the DMU
- Hold current statutory registration with an appropriate UK healthcare regulator, where eligible through the post holder's primary profession. Registration must be maintained throughout employment.
- FMF and/or DQUAS registration
- Have an up to date professional development portfolio. Must demonstrate ability to identify own educational and development needs.
Desirable
- A good knowledge of Health & Safety legislation within the workplace
Previous Experience
Essential
- NHS Clinical ultrasound experience in previous sonographer post
- Autonomous reporter of general medical and obstetric ultrasound examinations
Desirable
- Post qualification experience
- Experience of trainee supervision and mentoring
- Additional postgraduate ultrasound qualifications or formally evidenced competencies relevant to service requirements.
