Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit to Band 3 Housekeeping Team Leader to join our busy Housekeeping Department.

We are looking for individuals who are motivated and driven, who would enjoy working under pressure in a fast paced Hospital environment.

To provide supervisory to our large housekeeping team who provide a high quality cleaning service to our patients, visitors and colleagues.

As a Housekeeping Team Leader, you will play a key role in ensuring high standards of cleanliness, service delivery and staff management across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities include:

Leading and coordinating daily housekeeping operations, allocating staff effectively to ensure all areas are covered and service standards are maintained. Providing guidance, training and support to Housekeeping Assistants, ensuring staff are competent, equipped & confident in carrying out their duties. Monitoring cleaning standards through regular inspections, quality audits and performance reviews, implementing corrective actions where required. Supporting workforce management, including annual leave approval, attendance monitoring, payroll administration and arranging additional staffing to maintain service provision. Managing sickness absence processes, including return-to-work interviews, attendance reviews and staff wellbeing support in line with Trust policies. Addressing performance & conduct matters, promoting compliance with infection prevention, attendance and uniform standards. Organising & participating in specialist cleaning activities, ensuring safe and effective completion of enhanced cleaning programmes. Acting as a key member of the management team, contributing to service improvement initiatives, quality assurance programmes and departmental action plans. Responding to operational issues and service requests, maintaining accurate records and ensuring effective communication across the department.

The role requires strong leadership, organisational & communication skills with a commitment to delivering a safe, clean and high-quality environment.

Qualifications

Essential

  • *Basic Education to GCSE level -- including Maths and English qualifications (E)
  • *Trained or willingness to undertake training in a competence qualification in cleaning, infection control and / or support service by an awarding body, NVQ or equivalent. (E)
  • *Heartlands, Solihull and Heartlands Hospital Only: -
  • *Willingness to achieve Level 2 Cleaning qualification or equivalent (e.g. National Vocational Qualification NVQ or certificated British Institute of Cleaning Science qualification (BICs) (E)
  • *Solihull and Heartlands Hospital Only : -
  • *Certified in or a willingness to achieve Level 2 Supervising Food Safety in Catering (E)

Desirable

  • *Certificate in First Line Supervisory Management or willingness to achieve Certification. (D)
Experience

Essential

  • *Knowledge of the NHS Cleaning Standards (E)
  • *Knowledge of health and safety (E)
  • *Knowledge of COSHH (E)
  • *Knowledge of the NHS policies, health and safety, risk management and payroll (E)
