Job summary

The Intensive Service utilises both face-to-face and remote working to offer arange of group, individual and family-based therapies, as well as offering time toenable the young person to continue their education. The Intensive Serviceprovides a unique opportunity to be involved in this developing modality oftreatment, which provides seamless care for patients and theirfamilies/carers.

The Intensive Service aims to promote faster recovery, reduce relapse rates, and avoid protracted Tier 4 residential admissions.The post holder will provide clinical expertise with specific emphasis on eatingdisorders, and also contribute to the operational management and strategicdevelopment of the Intensive Service. The post holder will directly contribute tothe positive working environment within the Child & Adolescent EatingDisorders Service and will require a high degree of professional autonomy andself-management. The post holder will be required to account for theirprofessional practice through appraisal and audit, and ensure delivery ofclinically safe, high quality care for all service users. The post holder will needto work flexibly to address the unique requirements of the Intensive Service.

Main duties of the job

The Eating Disorder intensive Service is a community based service, offering an alternative to inpatient care for those acutely unwell with an Eating Disorder.

We work closely with the paediatric team to ensure the physical and mental health needs are met for all our young people.

Duties include;

To work within a nursing team caring for young people with eating disorders.Working as part of a multi-disciplinary teamTo establish the role within the multi-disciplinary team.To assist with efficient and effective nursing care.Leading the nursing team throughout a shift, supporting the decision making and showing accountability for junior members of the team.Advocating for young people you are nursing and their families.To ensure safe evidence-based clinical practice and demonstrate clinical expertise, and have delegated responsibility for the delivery of high quality patient care in a rich variety of arenas: outpatient and day patient treatment; facilitation / support for paediatric inpatient treatment for medical stabilisation and psychiatric emergencies; outreach and in-reach treatment.To work in collaboration with the Sister/Charge Nurse and other Senior Nurses and the multi-disciplinary team to promote the unique philosophy of the Intensive Service.Continue personal nursing development & education.To ensure the supervision and development of all nurses, students, and support workers for whom they are responsible.

  • RSCN or RMN or RN (Child/Mental Health)

Desirable

  • ENB 998 or equivalent
  • ENB 603
  • Relevant first degree
Experience

Essential

  • Post qualifying experience
  • Current experience in a paediatric or mental health setting working with young people.
  • Demonstrate evidence of linking theory to practice.

Desirable

  • Recent ward management experience.
  • Experience of working with patients with eating disorders.
Skills & Knowledge

  • Demonstrate communication skills.
