Job summary

Breast Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (12 month fixed term post)

An exciting opportunity to join the team (Charing Cross Hospital). The Trust strives to provide world-class healthcare, through excellence in research, education and training.

We are seeking experienced Cancer nurses, preferably with a CNS background, who have relevant clinical expertise. You should have knowledge within the tumour speciality and be able to demonstrate advanced communication and clinical skills. You should be enthusiastic, forward thinking and motivated to join these busy services.

You will have the opportunity to gain experience working within a MDT and developing your leadership skills. You will work autonomously and as part of a team, to deliver excellent clinical care, and improve patient experience within the speciality.

This is a great opportunity to develop your experience as a cancer CNS, enhancing your leadership and clinical skills in a specialist cancer unit.

Our services work across 3 hospital sites, some roles may require cross site travel.

Main duties of the job

  • Provision of specialist, high quality, expert nursing care and support for patients and their carers with a diagnosis of breast cancer being assessed, co-ordinated or cared for within Imperial and in liaison with the multidisciplinary team and other health agencies.
  • To perform an effective key role within the MDT to deliver cancer waiting times targets and pathways communication.
  • To act as a specialist resource for patients and the clinical team by providing comprehensive advice, information, teaching and training both within ICHT and externally.
  • Update own clinical and specialist knowledge. Contribute in audit processes. Undertake, where appropriate, nursing research with published outcomes.
  • Promote excellence in clinical practice, and the setting of quality standards within specialty.
  • Formulate an annual report/clinical audit of own CNS service and outcomes.
  • Active involvement in the development of the service locally and nationally.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse
  • First level degree in related subject
  • Evidence of Masters level learning or prepared to work towards
  • Post-basic qualification in cancer/palliative care or relevant subject
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Level 2 psychological skills training as per recognised course or working towards

Desirable

  • Research qualification
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Relevant post registration experience, in cancer or palliative care
  • Experience of teaching
  • In-depth specialist experience
  • Leadership and management experience
  • Able to conduct reflective practice and participates in clinical supervision facilitated by a level 3 / 4 practitioner
  • Experience of multi-professional working
  • Evidence of advanced communications skills
  • Ability to lead and influence change

  • Previous experience of working as a clinical nurse specialist
