Job summary

We are expanding our Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist teams here at Imperial, and this is an exciting opportunity to take on band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist role in either Haematology or Breast.

We are seeking experienced Cancer nurses, preferably with a CNS background, who have relevant clinical expertise. You should have knowledge within the tumour speciality and be able to demonstrate advanced communication and clinical skills. You should be enthusiastic, forward thinking and motivated to join these busy services.

You will have the opportunity to gain experience working within a MDT and developing your leadership skills. You will work autonomously and as part of a team, to deliver excellent clinical care, and improve patient experience within the speciality.

This is a great opportunity to develop your experience as a cancer CNS, enhancing your leadership and clinical skills in a specialist cancer unit.

Our services work across 3 hospital sites, some roles may require cross site travel.

Main duties of the job

o A clinical nurse specialist (CNS) is a registered nurse with relevant experienceand post-registration education for working at an enhanced level within a specificarea of practice. They assess, manage, deliver care, advise on, and supportpatients.o CNSs have the autonomy to act and accept responsibility and accountability fortheir actions, acting as a skilled advisor for patients, or a resource for others. o CNSs perform specialist holistic assessment and treatment using a personalisedapproach. This is characterised by a level of decision making based on detailedknowledge and understanding of their area of practice.o As part of the multidisciplinary team CNSs can work in or across many settings,depending on their area of expertise and scope of practice.

Education/ qualifications

Essential

  • NMC registration and a degree in related subject.
  • Post registration qualification(s) in speciality or relevant subject at level 7. (Cancer or palliative care or speciality)
  • Advanced Communication course and Level 2 psychological skills training.
  • Recognised teaching qualification or demonstratable teaching experience.

Desirable

  • MSc or MA in related speciality
  • Recognised physical assessment module at level 7
  • Leadership course
  • Quality improvement training
Experience

Essential

  • Relevant and substantial post registration experience at band 6 or above to speciality
  • Experience of working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
  • Experience of teaching and assessing others
