Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Advanced Practitioner to join our Directorate at a time of service development and transformation.

Working alongside the Service Director, Clinical Director and Medical Leadership Team,you will provide visible and credible clinical leadership across Community Hospitals, supporting our APs and trainee APs to develop and thrive. Working with senior clinical and operational colleagues, you will help shape our Advanced Practice workforce, strengthen governance and education, and ensure Advanced Practitioners are at the heart of developing high-quality patient care.

Main duties of the job

Working collaboratively with senior clinical and operational colleagues, the post holder will lead the development of robust governance, education and development arrangements for Advanced Practice. They will support APs and tAPs to develop across the four pillars of Advanced Practice, providing clinical and educational supervision, mentorship, coaching and pastoral support.

The post holder will maintain a visible clinical presence, undertaking regular advanced clinical practice within our inpatient physical health services and providing expert advice, leadership and supervision to APs and the wider multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and strengthening the Advanced Practice workforce across the directorate.
  • Supporting the education, supervision and progression of APs and tAPs.
  • Developing robust governance and assurance arrangements for Advanced Practice.
  • Providing senior clinical leadership and maintaining regular clinical practice.
  • Leading and supporting quality improvement, audit, research and evidence-based practice.
  • Contributing to workforce planning, recruitment, retention and service development.
  • Working across professional and organisational boundaries to influence change and promote safe, effective and high-quality patient care.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will:

  • Provide visible clinical and professional leadership to Advanced Practitioners (APs) and trainee Advanced Practitioners (tAPs), supporting development across the four pillars of Advanced Practice.
  • Support workforce planning, recruitment, retention and development of the Advanced Practice workforce.
  • Lead and strengthen governance, supervision and development arrangements for Advanced Practice, working closely with clinical, operational and education colleagues.
  • Provide clinical and educational supervision, coaching, mentorship and pastoral support to APs and tAPs.
  • Maintain regular advanced clinical practice, providing expert clinical leadership and support to the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Lead and contribute to quality improvement, clinical governance, audit, research and education, promoting evidence-based and high-quality patient care.
  • Work collaboratively with senior leaders to develop services, influence practice and maximise the contribution of Advanced Practitioners across the directorate

Person specification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Independent Non-medical prescribing
  • Educational Supervisor/mentorship qualification / Teaching and Assessing qualification Or relevant experience as a practice assessor / Practice Educator and / or Practice Supervisor
  • Leadership and Management qualification gained as part of the Masters level programme of study or equivalent experience gained in a senior leadership position
  • Experience of clinical working within the frailty speciality
  • Evidence of leading change across at organisational level
  • Demonstrable knowledge and application of Clinical Governance processes
  • Currently fulfilling the role of educational supervisor

Desirable

  • Previous experience of managing others and contributing to student supervision
Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse/HCPC/AHP professional
  • MSc In Advanced Clinical Practice
  • Post Masters development as part of CPD
  • Highly developed specialist clinical knowledge, underpinned by theory and experience in community services and / or urgent care
