Job summary

Due to an internal promotion, an exciting permanent, full time opportunity has arisen to join the Parkinson's Specialist Team to support people with Parkinson's, in particular with Device Assisted Therapies The successful candidate will preferably have demonstrable experience at band 6, or equivalent, demonstrable leadership experience and demonstrable experience or an interest in caring for patients with Parkinson's Disease with insight and proven knowledge of the condition. Dependant on proven knowledge and demonstrable experience, the post is a development post. Commencing at band 6, developing to band 7 on completion of relevant training and meeting specified outcomes. Full support, including a structured induction period will be given to help the post holder to meet the requirements of the role.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be supporting patients with a Parkinson's Disease diagnosis. Delivering care in the clinic setting and on the acute wards and virtually, via our Parkinson's Hub.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • First level degree in adult/mental health nursing
  • Professional (NMC) registration
  • Willing to undertake to PD Module- management of Parkinson's disease and associated conditions
  • Ability to undertake non-medical prescribing module according to current legislation.

Desirable

  • Leadership Course or equivalent
  • MSc in clinical nursing, or willing to work towards, or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Teaching qualification or proven evidence of and demonstrable experience of teaching
Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • Extensive demonstrable experience within Parkinson's care
  • Extensive demonstrable post registration experience
  • Able to demonstrate commitment to high-quality patient care
  • Demonstrable experience of wound care and management of cutaneous infections such as cellulitis
  • Theoretical and practical proven knowledge of Parkinson's disease and related disorders.
  • Proven knowledge and ability to develop of educational programmes

Desirable

  • Demonstrable experience within Parkinson's care at the advanced/complex disease stage
  • Demonstrable experience of assessment, initiation of management of infusion-based device assisted therapies
  • Demonstrable experience of drawing up and administering infusion-based therapies
  • Demonstrable experience of administering subcutaneous treatments
  • Demonstrable experience of initiating, monitoring and maintaining patients on Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS)
Aptitude and Abilities

Essential

  • Management of clinical case load
  • Proven understanding the difference between direct and indirect care
  • Able to prioritise workload
  • Able to work within a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to work across professional and organisational boundaries

Desirable

  • Ability to write Annual Report and Service Development reports
