Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiasticBand 6 Clinical Sisterto join our friendly and supportive team on our Neurology Ward atUniversity Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW).

Our Neurology Ward provides specialist care to patients with a wide range of acute and complex neurological conditions. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your clinical expertise while providing high-quality, patient-centred care within a busy and rewarding environment.

As a Clinical Sister, you will play a key role in the day-to-day leadership and management of the ward, working alongside the Ward Manager and wider multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care. You will provide clinical leadership and support to the nursing team, acting as a positive role model and promoting high standards of practice.

You will have responsibility for coordinating the ward, supporting staff with complex clinical decision-making, managing patient flow and ensuring appropriate escalation of concerns. You will also contribute tostaff development, education, clinical supervision and service improvement, helping to create a positive learning environment for nurses, students and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced Band 5 nurse or existing Band 6 nurse to develop their leadership skills and broaden their specialist knowledge within neurology.

Main duties of the job

  • Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.
  • Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to patients/carers and the multi-professional team.
  • A skilled practitioner and clinical leader providing support to the management team, participating in service/policy development.
  • Responsible for clinical assessment of a group of patients and management of a team, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented and evaluated/audited.
  • Demonstrate highly technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management including; complex patient monitoring; equipment management and frequent administration of invasive tests/procedures

Job responsibilities

  • Develop and educate staff, participating in supervision, mentorship and appraisal as required.
  • Utilise and ensure others utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data available.
  • Support patients, carers and others during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g imparting bad news or following an unexpected event.
  • Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times.

A shift/team leader, providing clinical leadership and management support, developing and evaluating best practice within the department. The post-holder will deputise for the department manager as required.
