Job summary

Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse West Wing OPD

Main duties of the job

To manage, maintain and support effectively Outpatients Departments in St Bartholomew's Hospital. The OP area is open on a Monday to Friday basis with varying hours. There is a possibility that in the future there will be weekend working as well.

He / She is responsible for the overall management of the clinical area and for the professional development of any junior staff; the sister / Charge Nurse will provide advice and support to the whole team involved in caring for patients. He / She will be expected to set and maintain high standards of care and be accountable for auditing and monitoring those standards.

Qualifications

Essential

  • NMC Registered Nurse
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Relevant experience in breast care, surgical, or outpatient settings
  • Teaching/Mentorship qualification

Desirable

  • Recognised teaching and assessing qualification
Experience

Essential

  • At least 2 years post registration experience including a minimum of 1 year's recent experience within the outpatient department
  • Experience in assessing post-operative and chronic wounds
  • Experience in identifying and escalating surgical wound complications including infection, seroma, haematoma and wound dehiscence

Desirable

  • Previous Band 6 experience
Knowledge

Essential

  • Breast surgery pathways
  • Pre-operative assessment processes
  • Infection prevention and control
  • Clinical governance and risk management

Desirable

  • Evidence of mentoring and development of staff
Skills
