Job summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Practice Nurse to join our friendly and supportive GP practice in Swiss Cottage. The successful candidate will provide high-quality nursing care to our patient population.
You will ideally have experience of working in a GP primary care setting . Familiarity with EMIS is ideal but applicants with experience in other IT applications will be considered.
Main duties of the job
The candidate will be expected to cover core nursing duties including, smear tests, child and travel immunisations, wound care, assist in minor surgery clinics, governance tasks and recall processes. Preferable also is to have experience in undertaking diabetes checks, Asthma annual reviews, COPD monitoring, Smoking Cessation and Family Planning advice experience.
We are looking for a full time position (37.5 per week) but part-time hours will be considered.

Swiss Cottage Surgery Surgery is a practice, providing care to over 17,000 patients and is part of Central Camden Primary Care Network. We are a friendly, supportive 4 partner practice with a wider multi-professional team including GPs, Nurses, Pharmacists and Physician Associates.
Job responsibilities
Assess patients, plan and deliver nursing care, review outcomes and seek GP advice or refer when needs exceed the scope of the role.
Undertake long-term condition reviews, including diabetes and hypertension, and other condition reviews within competence and agreed protocols; support patients with self-management.
Deliver adult, childhood and travel immunisations, including travel health advice, using appropriate authorisation such as Patient Group Directions or Patient Specific Directions.
Perform cervical screening and relevant swabs, following screening programme requirements; explain procedures, obtain consent and arrange appropriate follow-up.
Provide wound assessment and dressings, suture and clip removal, phlebotomy, blood pressure checks, urinalysis and sample collection and processing.
Undertake NHS Health Checks and provide health promotion advice, including smoking cessation, healthy eating and physical activity.
Assist with minor surgery and provide chaperoning when required; recognise deterioration and respond to clinical emergencies within training.
Maintain accurate, timely clinical records and coding; support patient call and recall, results follow-up and continuity of care.

Clinical skills and knowledge
Essential
- Competence in phlebotomy, wound care, cervical screening, adult and childhood immunisations, and travel health advice / vaccinations.
- Knowledge of health promotion, long-term condition care, infection prevention and control, safeguarding and clinical governance.
- Understanding of professional accountability, consent, confidentiality and medicines administration under PGDs / PSDs.
Desirable
- Additional skills in respiratory disease management or other specialist long-term condition care.
- Knowledge of primary care health campaigns and QOF.
Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Nurse (Adult / RGN) with current NMC registration.
- Recognised cervical screening training and current sample taker registration / number.
- Relevant immunisation training and competence, including childhood immunisations.
Desirable
- Further qualification in general practice nursing, long-term condition management or sexual and reproductive health.
Experience
Essential
- Experience working as a nurse in an NHS GP practice.
- Experience of independent nursing consultations with adults and children, including working with families and carers.
- Experience of long-term condition reviews and use of clinical protocols.
- Experience of participating in clinical audit.
Desirable
- Experience of family planning services.
- Experience of mentoring colleagues and contributing to quality improvement.
