Job summary

2 Substantive Full time and 1 fixed term for 12 months

We are excited to announce a new opportunity for an experienced Critical Care Nurse to join our dedicated team as a band 7 Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse in our world class Adult Critical Care Unit at St Bartholomew's Hospital.

We care for patients following complex cardiac, aortovascular, and thoracic surgery, complex cardiology, with one of the busiest Heart Attack Centres in Europe, ECMO and Oncology patients within our specialist centre. We have 50 critical care beds across 4 areas - with rotations available between the units. We have plans to expand our bed base making it an exciting time to join our team!

Must be able to work a mixture of long days, bank holidays and nights to meet service requirements.

Main duties of the job

To provide the highest standard of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised, holistic patient care in conjunction with the inter-professional team.

As a proficient practitioner in critical care, the post holder acts as a professional role model and clinical teacher. They will also provide effective mentorship and supervision, participating in the education and training of nursing and non-nursing staff.

They will also take charge of the Intensive Care Unit , liaising closely with the other

Senior Sister / Charge Nurse with continuing responsibility and support the matrons in service needs.

They will also be coordinate beds for the ACCU/HDU managing patient admission from theatres, heart attack centre and wards, as well as patient flow across units and the hospital.

Essential

  • oRelevant critical care OR High Dependency experience 2 years Band 6 in critical care setting critical 5 years clinical experience post registrarion
  • oEvidence of positive contribution to critical care
  • oExperienced in advanced support of critical care patient at band 6 and above
  • oInvolvement in provision of adult critical care course
Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse active on NMC register
  • Adult Critical Care Course at level 6/7
  • Mentorship course or practice assessor/supervisor course
  • ILS/ALS provide
  • Leadership programme or equivalen
  • Management training
  • Evidence of continuing professional developmen
  • Up to date knowledge of clinical speciality and evidenced based practice.
  • Knowledge of current NHS, professional and educational issues
  • Understanding of current educational practices relating to training
