Job summary

Job advert: Band 6 Specialist Public Health Nurse for Children in Care and care leavers.

This is a part-time role of 22.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 clinician to join our Children in Care and Care Leavers team in Bradford.

The post holder will work as part of a district-wide health team delivering the statutory health assessment service and promoting strategies to improve health outcomes for children in care.

A key part of the role is enabling and empowering young people to take part in assessing their health needs and developing their health plans.

We are looking for a Specialist Public Health Nurse who demonstrates strong competence, judgement, integrity and personal accountability, and who will advocate effectively for the children and young people in their care. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and the sensitivity needed to engage effectively with this vulnerable group.

Applicants should have experience of working within Children's Services and a minimum of two years' SCPHN experience.

Applicants will also need relevant clinical knowledge of children in care, including safeguarding practice.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will manage a caseload of complex and vulnerable children under the care of the local authority. They will demonstrate in-depth knowledge of trauma-informed practice and the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on children and young people's emotional, social and behavioural development, as well as their long-term health outcomes.

They will Provide statutory health assessments to children in care. The case holder will work as part of a multi disciplinary team and partnership agencies to provide the best health outcomes for the children and young people

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • oRGN (1st level) or RMN qualification
  • oH/V certificate / diploma / degree or School Nurse experience/degree
  • oAt least two years post SCPHN qualification experience of working with vulnerable children and families and holding a defined caseload.
  • oAble to demonstrate working at first degree level
  • o Experience of working in a CAMHS setting

Desirable

  • oPsychological Therapy or Counselling qualification

  • Experience of effective inter-agency working
  • Knowledge of the Legislation relevant to children and young people
  • Demonstrable understanding of the health needs of Looked After Children and Young People.
