Job summary
We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our friendly and dynamic team on a 12 month secondment (37.5 hours per week) at the Main Outpatient Department, Heatherwood Hospital.
Our department delivers high-quality care to both adult and paediatric patients, providing a wide range of outpatient services seven days a week (Monday to Sunday, 08:00 - 18:00). The department is made up of five zones, each with a variety of clinical consultation and procedure rooms designed to support diverse patient needs.
Our dedicated team is committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based, and patient-centred care, ensuring the best possible outcomes and experiences for all who use our services. *Please note, this role is suitable for Newly Qualified Nurses, including those due to qualify in the coming months*
Main duties of the job

To work clinically providing visible leadership, direction, co-ordination, and forward planning of Outpatient Department (OPD) services within the Frimley Health Outpatient nursing team.

You will serve as a prominent, inclusive role model, leading by example, demonstrating diverse expert clinical skills, clear professional and organisational values while overseeing the OPD areas.

You will foster a culture of respect, belonging, and equality within the OPD team.

Manage service needs and provide support to the Senior OPD team.

Practice competently and develop within the role to ensure a high standard of care and patient experience are maintained in line with the Frimley Health Strategy, Vision, and Values.

Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Nurse (Adult) with current NMC registration
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and reflective
Desirable
- Post-registration study in Outpatients, Ambulatory Care, Wound Care, ENT, Ophthalmology, or equivalent area.
- Practice Assessor or Practice Supervisor qualification (or willingness to complete)
Experience
Essential
- Experience of providing direct patient care in an acute, community, or outpatient setting (including student placements)
- Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care
Desirable
- Previous experience within an Outpatient or Ambulatory environment
- Experience contributing to audit or quality improvement
- Experience supporting students or developing staff
Skills & Knowledge
Essential
- Ability to deliver safe, effective, and person-centred care
- Competent in basic clinical skills (observations, ECGs, venepuncture, wound care, catheterisation etc.) or willingness to train
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with patients and colleagues
- Able to use IT and electronic patient record systems confidently
- Demonstrates sound clinical judgement, prioritisation, and organisational skills
- Flexible and adaptable to meet service needs
- Understanding of the NMC Code and professional standards
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control, consent, safeguarding, and confidentiality
- Awareness of equality, diversity, and inclusion in patient care and workplace practice
Desirable
- Proficiency in specialist OPD procedures (e.g. assisting with minor ops)
- Experience of service improvement or audit participation
- Interest in education, mentorship, or leadership development
- Demonstrates initiative and problem-solving abilities
- Awareness of clinic flow, booking systems, and outpatient performance targets
- Understanding of NHS priorities and Trust values
